This medieval town in Burgundy with it's stone arched bridge and pink granite bluff epitomizes old France, which is rich in history and beauty. The dramatic, multi-level perspective of the many homes and buildings was my initial inspiration to paint this town. My aim with this painting was to have the viewer feel the allure of what life in Semur-en-Auxois might be like; to wander down the path, cross the stone arched bridge into the town and experience life in this charming town and all it has to offer. I enjoyed using a palette-knife and expressive brush strokes to give the work a soft, impressionistic feel.
