An Evening at Hank’s ~ Upscale seafood in a downtown setting!

My latest Charleston painting features Hank’s Seafood Restaurant, voted continuously as “Best seafood restaurant in Charleston”. It is a classic fish house restaurant, bar and raw bar, located near the Charleston City Market. I love the ambiance created from this old renovated warehouse. From the outside, the stuccoed historic building looks old, very old, with big, painted red letters spelling out Hank’s. The large entryway is inviting and is necessary as Hank’s is a very popular restaurant for both locals and foodies from away.

My painting depicts a special evening out for a group of ladies, a couple, and a man. Attire ranges from casual to fancy, as anything goes in Charleston. The ladies have all dressed for the occasion. :)

As a couple of foodies, Jen and I really appreciate an evening at Hank’s. Our most recent reservation was with my family when they all came to town. It was our last evening together before they all headed back home. I recall having one of their delicious seafood platters. I’ve also had one of their iconic seafood dishes, Seafood al a Wando, which was excellent. Mussels and oysters are always a popular choice for those who enjoy them.

As I mentioned, the ambience at Hank’s helps make an evening’s dining experience exceptional. The low lighting, the open kitchen area, the raw bar and bar, the rich dark wood that is throughout, the professional service all help make an evening romantic, satisfying, and memorable.

Open for dinner only, my painting is an early evening scene with lights cast downward on the facade of the building and onto the sidewalk. The warm lights from inside indicate they are open for business and, as usual, people are starting to gather.

A lightly textured surface to the board helped create the old, historic look to the facade. I kept the painting fairly loose in style, with the exception of the lettering for Hank’s which I wanted to stand out.
