On the Rocks was one of a series of paintings I’ve done of Monhegan Island.  The perspective is from a point near the fishing shacks and waterfront homes at sea level.  The charming Island Inn is situated up on the hill surrounded by the village homes, but the central focus is the rocky coast.  The white water of the surf is only a glimpse into the wrath a raging storm brings to this remote island.
