Pitt Street Marsh ~ A Panoramic View from Pickett Park and the Pitt Street Bridge!
One of my favorite places to go and spend some time outdoors is Pickett Park at the old Pitt Street Bridge in Mt. Pleasant SC. It is a prime place for birders to photograph a great variety of birds. Kayakers love to paddle the estuaries that wind their way into Charleston Bay. Dog walkers enjoy a grassed over dead-end road lined with palm trees. Fisherman are always there dropping a line into the fertile fishing grounds. It’s a wonderful place to sit on one of the park benches and watch the sun set over the distant Ravenel Bridge.
Pitt Street Marsh is my first painting of the panoramic view from the Pitt Street Bridge. I love looking back at the distant Arthur Ravenel Bridge that connects Mt. Pleasant to downtown Charleston. Shrimp boats can often be spotted motoring toward the bridge after a long day out in the bay. Huge cargo ships also work their way under the bridge and on up the Wando River. Sailboats, motorboats, and jet skis also frequent the area with the Intercoastal Waterway just off to the left being a busy waterway.
But, for the most part, it is a very peaceful, tranquil place where people go to connect with the outdoors, feel the sea breeze, read a good book, have a picnic, or nap in a hammock!
My painting depicts a sunny day with big billowing clouds over the Ravenel. The skies here are often dramatic and expansive. With water on both sides of the park, there are many different panoramic views in all directions. I sense more paintings to follow of this breathtaking location!
