Me and My Peeps ~ Painting the Pipers

Sanderlings, also known as “peeps”, are medium sized Sandpipers. They love to chase the wave action on the beach.  In my painting, Me and My Peeps, the grouping of 4 are watching their leader to see which way to go next.   It depicts a slight moment of hesitation for birds usually in perpetual motion.

The incoming waterline is sure to get them moving on to the next location to forage for food in the wet sand.  I never tire of watching them when at the beach.  I also enjoy painting them and trying to capture their spontaneous personality.

Traveling in numbers they always seem to form interesting formations.  Sometimes they fall in line, other times they are bunched as in this composition.

Me and My Peeps has already found a home, appropriately going to a family of 5 who spent many years summering at the beach.  I’m already on to the next painting with six Sanderlings in a row, so please check back soon!  Thanks as always for following my work!

One of the joys of being an artist is having the freedom to follow my passion...
