Dreaming of Cape Cod ~ art that transports you to another place!
Art has many powers. It can evoke many emotions depending on the subject matter, the colors, the mood, the brightness or the darkness. It can also transport the viewer to another place and time. In this case, my painting, Dreaming of Cape Cod, was a commissioned painting designed to do just that, to evoke warm feelings and transport the owners of the Cape Cod property back to their home while wintering in Florida.
To us our home is our sanctuary. We love being home, especially in these trying times during the Covid 19 pandemic. So when I was asked to paint this beautiful view looking out to the blue waters of Cape Cod Bay, as a daily reminder of a place so near and dear to my clients’ hearts, I was flattered and honored to do so.
I have wonderful memories of visiting my aunt and uncle at the Cape on family vacations as a child. While living in Maine, I would wrap up the fall golf season by taking a long weekend with my golf buddies to the Cape and we looked forward to it every year.
So as I worked on this special project of my clients’ magnificent view from their Cape Cod home’s deck, it brought back happy memories of my own. Here I was, painting a painting meant to transport them to their “happy place” and I found myself taken back in time and was flooded with happy memories.
I love that about art. The fact that I can look at their painting of their home and that I can relate to it in an emotional way.
A sea breeze, the salt marsh, the distant whitecaps on the ocean, the American flag flying, a relaxed setting, and seagulls! Maybe morning coffee on the deck or a snooze on the chaise lounge. Evening cocktails down on the patio by the fire pit! As you can tell, I enjoyed working on this commission very much!
Thank you for reading my journal and for your interest in my art! I’m already on to my next commission, which is another challenging and special project that I’m excited about. Please check back soon to see what’s on the easel next!
