The vantage point for Schooners on the Penobscot was from the top of Owls Head Light. Looking down on the J. & E. Riggin and the Stephen Taber on an evening sail, with the sun going down behind the Camden Hills was a nostalgic moment for me. At one time in the not-so-distant past, hundreds of schooners would dot the vast waters of the Penobscot Bay. Now there are only a few of the historic wooden schooners left. They are a sight to behold and this was a scene I knew I had to paint!
