Sullivan’s Island Snowy ~ #9 in the Yellow Foot Collection!

As often as I see Snowy Egrets here in South Carolina, rarely do I see one on the beach. It was a late afternoon when I saw this Snowy fly in and frolic all around several tidal pools. It was interested in catching minnows and digging up small crustaceans. The all white-feathered bird picked up the sun’s yellow rays and reflected the water’s pinks and blues.

In my painting, Sullivan’s Island Snowy, the bird’s yellow feet are featured prominently. This particular Snowy also had yellow running up its back legs and looked quite sporty.

I chose this Snowy Egret to be #9 in the collection of Snowy Egret paintings because of the uniqueness of the moment. The colorful reflections in the shallow layer of water also helped inspire this painting.

Each painting evolved from my own personal birding outings in the Lowcountry. The actual bird sighting is always exciting, the photography is always challenging, and memorializing each bird on canvas is always rewarding.
