Vinalhaven is the neighboring fishing village to the island of North Haven.  Both can be reached by ferry leaving out of Rockland.  A few shops and restaurants cater to the townspeople and to the tourists, but the highlight for me is the active working harbor, full of lobsterboats and activity on the wharfs.  It is quintessential Maine and is a step back in time.  What a wonderful way to spend any amount of time on Vinalhaven!
