SPIKE ~ First Snowy in the Yellow Foot Collection!

Spike is a flamboyant, male Snowy Egret looking for love, and the star subject of my latest painting named after him! Spike’s head feathers are raised hoping to catch the eye of a passing female. His wings are adorned by lacy plumes. His red lore will soon turn back to yellow, but for now he knows he looks extra dapper. His bright yellow/orange feet officially identify him as a Snowy Egret.

Spike loves his sporty yellow feet. He thinks of them like a new pair of Air Jordans. Even though they are used to dig through the mud and stir up the bottom of various bodies of water to confuse and help him catch fish, somehow they always remain new looking.

Courting in dense foliage, Spike’s all-white feathers stand out against the greenery. Light filtering through the canopy creates almost an abstract quality to his natural surroundings.

He’s a cool bird, with a healthy self-confidence! Finding a worthy mate won’t be a problem for Spike. ☺

The Yellow Foot Collection is going to be a series of 10 Snowy Egret paintings, all similar in size, somewhat loose in style, colorful and fun. The Snowies will be depicted in a variety of poses, revealing their playful personality. Backgrounds will be creative and painterly. Color, light, and brushwork will be recurring elements in each piece.

There will be special pricing for this limited collection. Collecting original art is not always affordable to many, so I wanted to create a series that allowed more people the opportunity to buy one of my paintings.

Spike was a fun way to start. The snowy’s pose and spiked feathers had me at hello. ☺
